Re-Homing Assistance Program (RAP)

Sometimes situations arise beyond our control and we aren’t able to keep the dog or cat to whom we’d promised a forever home.  If you find yourself in this situation, CCHS may be able to assist you in rehoming your pet rather than having no other option than surrendering it.

The decision to rehome your pet can be stressful for both you and for your pet.  We may have ideas or suggestions to help you to keep your pet or to find the right home for your pet based on your circumstances.

We offer a Courtesy Listing on our website of your pet just as we do for our adoptable animals. Upon approval to participate, you will share a cute photo and short biography with the specifics about your pet and its adoptability.

Once your Courtesy Listing is posted to our site, any adoption applications we receive for your pet will be reviewed and forwarded to you to make contact with applicants, screen potential adopters with criteria we share, set up adoption meetings, and determine who adopts your animal.

Re-Homing Assistance Program specifics:

  • There is no fee for this Courtesy Listing.
  • Courtesy Listings are posted on our website for up to 60 days or until your pet is adopted. We ask that you are able to keep your pet for 60 days. After 60 days and/or should an adoption not work out, you may request to relist your pets’ Courtesy Listing on our site.
  • You keep any adoption fee for your pet.
The following documentation is helpful for adoption but not required:
  • Spay or neuter certificate
  • Proof of up-to-date vaccinations. This includes rabies and DHLPP (or DHPP) for dogs and FVRCP for cats.  A current FeLV/FIV test is also recommended for any cats allowed outdoors.

To learn more about RAP, as well as request an application to begin the rehoming process, email rehoming@cchumane.org.

We are not able to provide a courtesy listing if your pet has a complaint and/or record with any Animal Control agency for physically threatening behavior, including bites or attacks on humans and/or other animals.
